Announcements:

Mark Orlic reported that there are license plates still available for $20.  There are also PA TU tapered leaders for $3.50.

 

 

Old Business:

 

Mill Creek:  Fred Kelso Reported that the work done on Howell Bridge seems to have caused mine seepage to enter into the Creek. Pictures were shown to the chapter and it was decided to investigate and possible contact the DEP about the concerns.

 

North Fork:  Mark Hanes reported that the stream is fishing well and brown trout were seen on reeds below and above the dam.  There was a lot of clearing done for the future expansion of the Brookville Water Treatment Plant.  There may be some sediment issues as a result.

 

Piney Creek: Bill Kodrich reported that the trout are living still and that there had been some brook trout seen spawning.  Also the fall clean up/scrap removal went well the men that wanted the scrap did an excellent job.

 

New Business:

 

Fly Tying Clinic

            When: Three Saturdays in February: 20, 27 and March 6th

                Where: Brookville Borough Building ( Ron B. will take care of getting the venue for the chapter.)

            Time: 10am to 1pm

            How to advertise: Flyers for the Show will be made and distributed to Schools and other pertinent places. It will also be placed on the website.

 

Fly tying kits will be purchased for the students along with vises. This year the students will be able to have the kits and certificates upon completion of the classes.  They must attend all three vises in order to have the kit as there own.  Mark Hanes will come up with an outline of the flies to be taught for each day it will be presented to the chapter for the December Meeting. Materials list will be given to Bill Kodrich so they can be purchased at wholesale prices by the chapter.

 

Banquet:

            April 10th 2010

            Donations should be taken starting after Christmas.  It was mention that it is another election year and that candidates may be willing to donate big ticket prizes again like some did last year.  Members signed up and took tickets to sell for the banquet.

            Special Presentation: Consequences of Marcellus Shale Drilling in PA by Deborah Nardone, Conservation Biologist with PA council of TU, and Coldwater Heritage Partnership

 

Chapter will provide Spiral Sliced Ham and Beverages. Chapter members are to bring a dessert, side dish, or appetizer. 

 

It was discussed to get the Double Boar Ranch owner a certificate for dinner somewhere for allow the chapter to use the lodge for the event.

Approval of Minutes: The minutes of the May 13, 2009 meeting were approved as circulated.  Say/Gilligan.  Thanks to Jim Knickerbocker for taking the minutes.

 

Treasurer's report: The balance of our accts is $8334.03.  Report was approved as circulated.  Farley/Williams.  For our next meeting, Bill Kodrich and Mark Orlic will present a budget for the next year.

 

Announcements:

Mark Orlic announced that the Iron Furnace Marketplace now has license plates and leaders.  Plates are $20 and leaders are $3.50. Jack Williams and Mark Orlic will be attending the Fall General Membership meeting on Oct 2, 3.  Bill Kodrich will be representing the chapter at the next Dirt and Gravel Road meeting.  Jack Williams attended the annual National TU meeting at Traverse City, MI.  It was the 50th anniversary of Trout Unlimited.  He reported on meeting Art Neumann, who is 92 and the last living founding father of the organization.  Ron Battaglia gave a general thank you to all who assisted him during the years he was chapter treasurer.

 

Old Business

 

Piney Creek: There was a clean up of the new property last May.  We need to do something with the sawdust pile, the scrap metal and the rotting wood.  The creek will be stocked on October 3, 2009.  Helpers are to meet at 11:00 AM at Exit 64 of I-80.

 

Mill Creek Coalition: Morrow reported he, with the help of Joe Gilligan and Jack Williams recently sampled all of the AMD treatment systems in the watershed.  He noted that many of the older ones need work and lamented on the shortage of money available from the state to rework systems. 

 

North Fork: Barry Gould reported that the project will be stocked on October 2, 2009 at 11:00 AM.

 

Allegheny WINS: Mark Orlic reported that there is a lot of work being done in the Allegheny National Forest, mainly by the Cornplanter Chapter and the Western Pennsylvania Conservancy.  There will be an opportunity to help with a Brook Trout Redd study in October.  Contact Mark if you would like to help.

 

Banquet: There were preliminary discussions on the upcoming banquet.  Morrow will check on when Easter is and set a date that doesn’t conflict with the Rocky Mt. Elk Foundation Banquet.  Dinner tickets will be distributed in Dec.

 

New Business:

 

Alliance for Wetlands and Wildlife Banquet, Oct. 1, 2009.  Request from Bill Kodrich for a table sponsorship at $200.  Carried.  Kelso/Gilligan

 

 

Piney Creek Road and new land cleanup:  The fall clean up will be on September 30, 2009 at 9:00 AM.  At that time we will talk with Rick Staley about moving the sawdust pile.

Guest Speaker:  Dan Surrra, senior advisor to the DCNR/Governor on PA Wilds spoke about PA Wilds and about the Marcellus Shale Oil Drilling. 

 

Call to Order:  President Orlic called the meeting to order at 7:30PM.   Chef Battaglia and his staff provided the components for a fine meal sans the meat, which was provided by the members.

 

Approval of Minutes: The minutes of the March 16, 2009 meeting were approved as circulated.  Say/Gilligan.  Thanks to Keith Ferraro for taking the minutes.

 

Treasurer's report: The balance of our accts is $8920.21.

 

Announcements:

Mark Orlic announced that the Iron Furnace Marketplace now has license plates and leaders.  Plates are $20 and leaders are $3.50.  The Cornplanter Chapter will be sponsoring a Clean Streams Expo at the Sheffield Lions Club on April 25th.  Jack Williams and Mark Orlic plan on attending.   The Clarion County Sportsmen Clubs Youth Field Days will be held on July 18th at Camp Coffman near Kossuth, PA.  The North Fork Watershed Association sent a letter outlining upcoming events.  The Clarion County Federation of Sportsmens Clubs banquet will be hale on May  2nd at the Salem Community Building.  Tickets are $12, Jack Williams has them.

 

Old Business

 

Piney Creek: Land acquisition is complete.  We have paid the Alliance for Wetlands and Wildlife $6000 and still owe them $4000, payable after the 2010 banquet.

 

Mill Creek Coalition: Morrow reported that the Coalition learned that its last two Growing Greener Grant Applications hadn’t been funded. 

 

North Fork:  Evan Say reported that Tom Snyder, the Eagle Scout we sponsored will be receiving his Eagle Scout Badge on May 3rd at the Presbyterian Church in Brookville.

 

Allegheny WINS:  Mark and Jack distributed the new brochure for Allegheny Wins.  Mark announced that he has authored an article for the next PA Trout Newsletter on the Allegheny WINS.  This summer there will be a number of projects that chapter members can volunteer to help with.  Check out the article in the PA Trout Newsletter.  One known date is June 18th for a habitat Improvement project on Spring Creek (trib to the Clarion River).

 

Banquet: The banquet was a smashing success.  Total income was $21, 074.65 and net income was $12,114.84.

 

New Business:

 

Alliance for Wetlands and Wildlife Banquet, May 7, 2009.  Request from Bill Kodrich for $130 for a reel to mate to the custom rod he and the chapter is donating was approved.  Kelso/Gilligan

 

PA Trout Newsletter Donation:  A donation of $100 was approved.  Morrow/Say.

 

Donation to Clarion County Sportsmens Clubs for Banquet Prize:  a donation of $30 was approved.  Morow/Gilligan

 

Fishing Clinic:  No lead instructor was available, so clinic will be cancelled this year.

 

Clarion Mall National Wildlife Federation Outdoor Exposition will be held the last week in April.  President Orlic has developed a display board for the chapter.

 

Piney Creek Road and new land cleanup:  The cleanup will be held on Monday,  April 27th at 9:00
AM.

 

Request for funding for the Kiddy Fishing Pond at Cooks Forest.  We approved a $25 donation.

q       The chapter received a certificate of membership in the Pennsylvania Federation of Sportsmen

q       Pennsylvania “Back The Brookies” license plates are still available for $20.00

q       The chapter received a letter from DEP to notify us that the Coon Creek grant proposal was unsuccessful.

q       Clarion County Federation of Sportsmen will be holding a “Sportsmen’s Day” from April 23-25 at the Clarion Mall.  IFTU has been invited to set up a display at the event.  Mark is requesting ideas, photos and other materials to be displayed at the event.

q       Mark Orlic shared information with attendees regarding a program called “Casting for Recovery” which is a fly-fishing education program for breast cancer survivors.  Please contact Mark if you know of anyone who would be interested in attending.

q       Keith Ferraro offered tickets for the 2009 Craig Lewis Memorial Fishing Contest & Picnic, sponsored by the Pine Grove Sportsmen’s Club.  Ticket price is $5.00.  Those who are interested should contact Tony Knapp or any member of the Pine Grove Sportsmen’s Club.

q       North Fork of Redbank Creek to be stocked on 3/27 with the help of Brookville High School Fly-fishing Club.

North Fork:

q       Evan reported that the Hawk Run project appears to be working well, with water flowing over the structure and a small amount of scouring has taken place below the dam.  Keith is planning to get a picture of the structure.    

Coldwater Conservation Camp- No report.

New Business:

q       Evan Say reported that the Ohnahdagon Society has offered to donate half of the proceeds from their golf scramble to Iron Furnace TU.  The other half will be offered to the Alliance for Wetlands.  The scramble will take place on July 26th at High Level Golf Course.  Please contact Evan Say to enter a team.

q       Please submit banquet tickets to Mark Orlic ASAP.

q       Banquet donation lists need to be submitted to Bill Kodrich ASAP.

q       Evan asked Bill about the status of the “small games of chance” license for the banquet.  Bill will be picking it up.

q       There may be a need for more help setting up for the banquet.  Please consider volunteering if you’re able to help.

Banquet: Prize lists should be given to Kodrich by March 21st. Morrow reported that all dinner tickets have been distributed.  Until Feb. 9th tickets will be handled by Morrow.  After Feb. 9th Mark Orlic will be responsible. 

 

Allegheny WINS: Mark Orlic reported that Nate Welker contacted him about some possible projects on the ponds at Beaver Meadows, which is in the headwaters of Salmon Creek.  There are some acid problems that may be addressed.  It is possible that chapter members can become involved even though the ponds are a warm water fishery.  Mark will have more information after the next WINS meeting.

 

Coldwater Conservation Camp- No report.

 

Coon Creek Growing Greener grant proposal:  Mark Orlic reported that there was no word from DEP on the grant.

 

Fly tying classes:  The classes will be at the Brookville Boro building on February 21, 28 and March 7.  Kodrich indicated that it is important that chapter members show up to help.  Battaglia and Kodrich will take care of newspaper publicity.

 

 

 

 

New Business:

 

Back the Brookie License Plate:   President Orlic displayed the new plate offered for sale by the chapter for $20; seven plates were sold immediately.  The chapter has 23 more available

 

PA Federation of Sportsmens Clubs Dues:  Our dues of $290 are due.  Motion carried to pay them.  Williams/Hanes.

 

Pine Creek Headwaters Protection Group Dues:  The chapter voted to rejoin at the $20 level this year.  Farley/Morrow.

 

100 foot Riparian Zone Buffer Issue:  The PADEP is in the process of lessening the requirements for riparian buffer zones, allowing developers to do whatever they want as long as they hire a professional engineer to design their projects.  President Orlic sent a letter to Governor Rendell on behalf of the chapter objecting to the proposal.  He encouraged others to send individual letters.

 

TU 50th Anniversary:  This year is TU’s 50th year.  There are a number of activities scheduled and the events will climax at the annual meeting on August 23rd   in Travis City, Michigan.

 

Purchase of guns for banquet prizes:  Kodrich presented a bill for $1457.14 for the purchase of 5 guns for the banquet.  Carried.  Willilams/Hanes

 

TU youth membership category:  In the December issue of “Lines to Leaders” it was announced that there is now a youth membership category with reduced dues and a special publication aimed directly at young members.  Jack Williams will investigate the possibility of providing some memberships for local “Trout in the Classroom” participants.

 

North Fork Watershed Association Dues:  Our dues are now payable.  A motion to retain our membership and pay $50 for Organizational dues carried.  Battaglia/Farley

Announcements:

Mark Oleic thanked the Flaherty’s on behalf of the chapter for allowing us to have the meeting in their home.  New members, Bill Shearer, Matt Baker and Matt Hanes were recognized.

Piney Creek: Land acquisition is complete.  We will owe the Alliance for Wetlands and Wildlife $10,000 next year to complete our part of the purchase.

North Fork:  Evan Say reported that the Hawk Run project is working now that flows are up.

 

Piney Creek:  Bill Kodrich reported that Fike Asssociates are surveying the new property at no cost to the chapter and that the new property deed will be combined with the deed for the property we already owned.

 

Banquet: The banquet will be held on March 28, 2009 at St. Josephs in Lucinda. Evan cautioned us that we will need a successful banquet to pay our commitment for the Piney tract. Banquet tickets were distributed to those in attendance.  Ron Battaglia volunteered to help Morrow with the banquet ticket distribution since Morrow will be out of town February and March.  Donor receipts and the forms to list donors were distributed. 

 

Allegheny WINS: Mark Orlic reported that he and Morrow attended the recent meeting at the Forest Service Headquarters in Warren.  The final report for the year will be posted on our website soon.  There are a number of fine projects going on under the aegis of WINS.

 

Coldwater Conservation Camp-   Evan Say reported that he and Keith Ferraro have identified 5 students from Brookville who are interested in applying to the PA Council camp this year.  Mark Haines indicated that he was a former camper and said he would personally sponsor a camper from the chapter if we end up with more than one.

 

Coon Creek Growing Greener grant proposal:  Mark Orlic reported that there was no word from DEP on the grant.

 

Trout in the Classroom:  Both of our sponsored projects are up and running.  Wayne Kocher is on his second year at Clarion Area Schools and John MacBeth is on his first at Brookville Schools.  They will be doing presentations at the January meeting at the Limestone Fire Hall.

 

Fly tying classes:  Ron Battaglia will check on the availability of the Brookville Boro building for February 21, 28 and March 7.

Announcements—The annual Clarion County Federation of Sportsmen Clubs Banquet will be held on February 23rd at the Hawthorn Fire Hall.  The program will be on elk management in PA.  Tickets are $10 and Bill Kodrich has them for sale.

Mill Creek Coalition:  Morrow reported that nothing new has occurred in the last month.

 

Piney Creek Property: No report.

 

Raffle tickets:  Bill Kodrich still has raffle tickets for the seven-item raffle.  They can be sold 7 for $20.  The drawing will be at the banquet on April 5th.

 

Banquet – Bill Kodrich handed out the forms we are to use to report collected raffle items to him.  He will need to know what items have been collected by March 28th.  He emphasized that a solicitor’s form must be filled out for each contributor as required by the small games of chance law.  Banquet tickets were handed out to members present and will be carried or mailed to other members for them to sell.  The cost is $30 this year.  Morrow reported that the hall is ready for us.  Morrow encouraged members to seek out new people for the banquet so we can keep our numbers up.

 

Eagle Scout Project—Dave Keller is still scheduled to meet  representatives of the chapter and Tom Snyder on January 30th.  Jack Williams will call Dave to ascertain the particulars.

 

Fly tying classes:  Classes will be from 10AM until 1 PM on February 16, 23, and March 1(Saturdays) at the Brookville Community Building.  There has been a lot of interest, so we will need lots of members present to teach.  Kodrich is putting together kits of materials for participants and developing the curriculum.

 

Brookville Area Schools Ecology Curriculum – No report.

 

Outdoor/Fly fishing Club at Brookville H. S. -No report.

 

Northfork Watershed Association:  No report.

 

Chapter Newsletter -  Knickerbocker and Kodrich reported that they have received no articles from any members and urged members to submit ASAP so an issue can be produced.

 

New Business

 

Bank record access for Kodrich -  Kodrich requested that he be allowed to access our bank records in order to produce financial reports for the treasurer.  Moved by Farley/Knickerbocker to allow this.  Carried.

 

Keystone Coldwater Conference -  This year’s conference will be held on February 22 and 23 at the Penn Stater Conference Center and Hotel.  The Friday afternoon session will be a workshop on taxonomy and identification of species found in headwaters ecosystem.  The Saturday session will be on Headwaters Ecosystems: Protection, Management and Research.  Participants can attend two sessions and the plenary sessions.  A great lunch will be provided as part of the registration fee of $35.  Participants in the Friday workshop won’t be charged for the experience.  To register go to the following web site:  www.outreach.psu.edu/programs/coldwaterconservation

 

Support for Senate Bill 2191 – Steve Moyers, National TU V. P.  is asking state councils and chapters to sign on to a letter of support for the Lieberman-Warner Climate Protection Act to reduce Carbon Dioxide emissions.  Moved by Farley and seconded by Knickerbocker to have the chapter sign on.  Carried

Announcements—There will be a public meeting on Dec. 20, 2007 at the Main Street Center in Clarion at 7PM.  The meeting is sponsored by the Clarion County Planning Commission to allow citizens and public officials to provide input on how to connect natural spaces by greenways and trails.  Kodrich reported that a grant had been submitted to the Western Pennsylvania Conservancy for a stream assessment on Coon Creek as a part of the WINS program.  The money, if awarded, will be handled by the Chapter.

North Fork:  Evan Say reported on the Gypsy Run Road Project.  A grant application will be made to the Dirt and Gravel Road Program during the next granting cycle.  Herb Landis, representing the Brookville Municipal Authority and Porter DuVall will do the grant.

Trout in the Classroom: PR pictures were taken last month and an article appeared in the Clarion News several weeks ago.  Mr. Kocher and his students are scheduled to make a presentation on the project at our next meeting, January 21, 2008 at the Limestone Firehall.  See meeting announcement at the end of the minutes.

 

Banquet:  Bill Kodrich, banquet chair, outlined the requirements for record keeping required by the small games of chance legislation.  All donations must be recorded on the official forms including the name of the donor and the items donated.  Also, ticket buyers addresses must be recorded on the stubs and the stubs returned to Bill.  The door prizes will be given out in small bags this year.  Bags will be chosen at random, so we won’t need the numbered fish.  Banquet tickets will be distributed after the January meeting.

 

Raffle tickets:  Bill Kodrich distributed raffle tickets to be sold by chapter members.  The drawing will occur at the banquet.  They can be sold as 7 for $20 or 3 for $10 or $5 each.

 

Eagle Scout Project--  Tom Snyder proposes to do habitat improvement project on Hawk’s Run.  He talked a bit about what his requirements are as described by the Boy Scouts.  The plan is to have Dave Keller of the PFBC visit the site on-

January 30, 2008 to develop an improvement plan that Tom can use to define his Eagle Scout project.  While Dave is here, he will look at the project area also to suggest improvements. 

 

New Business

 

Fly tying classes:  Classes will be from 10AM until 1 PM on February 12, 23, and March 1(Saturdays) at the Brookville Community Building. 

 

Brookville Area Schools Ecology Curriculum: John Johnson, superintendent of Brookville schools, presented a curriculum he plans on proposing to the school board for implementation in Brookville
Schools.  He envisions a school/community project and the development of a Ecology and Environmental Center.  As the project develops, the chapter may be involved.

 

Clarion River Clean up:  The event will be moved from May to the fall of 2008 to better manage the project. 

 

Outdoor/Fly fishing Club at Brookville H. S.: Keith Ferrraro filled the chapter in on the development of the club at Brookville H. S. 

 

Membership in Clarion County Federation of Sportsment/PA Federation of Sportsmens Clubs/National Wildlife Federation:  The chapter voted to continue our memberships to the tune of $288.  Morrow/Say.  Carried.

 

Northfork Watershed Association:  Ron Battaglia outlined the accomplishments of the Association over the last year and suggested that the chapter should renew its membership at the $50 level.  Battaglia/Gilligan.  Carried.

The Business meeting was preceded by a presentation of the Eastern Brook trout Joint Venture by Ken Undercoffer and Jack Williams.  Trout Unlimited and PA Trout are important players in this effort to protect and enhance Brook Trout populations in its natural range.

Announcements—President Orlic announced he would be in Africa until February.  VP Say will take over as president in his absence.  Mark noted that Narhan Welker thanked us for the warm welcome he received last month.  He asked Mark to remind the chapter that we should be tiniking about stream improvement projects in collaboration with the Allegheny National Forest.  The next Allegheny WINS meeting will be held on December 12th.  Jack Williams and perhaps Evan Say will attend.  Jack Williams and Mark Orlic attended the trout in the classroom meeting with Wayne Kocher to pick up equipment.  The eggs are to arrive soon.  When they do, there will be a photo op at the Clarion Area Elementary School.  The Derrick and the Clarion News will be invited.  Mr. Kocher’s students will do a presentation at our January meeting.

Mill Creek Coalition:  Morrow reported that bids were accepted for construction that will occur on the Filson 7 Sites near the 949 bridge crossing of Little Mill Creek.  He also reported that fish have been sighted in Little Mill Creek near its confluence with Mill Creek.

 

Piney Creek Property: A sign will be posted at the spring indicating that the water is not safe to drink and anyone using it will do so at their own risk.  Chet McMillan will see to purchasing the sign.  Thanks to Joe Gilligan for doing the mowing at the site this summer.

 

Piney Road Pickup:  The next pick up date is Oct. 15th at 9:00 AM.  Donuts and coffee will be provided.

Trout In the Classroom:  President Orlic and Wayne Kocher (teacher at Clarion Area School District) announced that they submitted a grant to PA Trout for materials to be used in the Trout in the Classroom program.  The grant is for $500 to be matched by $500 from the chapter.  Moved by Kodrich and seconded by Stange that we provide the $500 match if the grant is successful.  Carried.  Wayne discussed his goals for the program.

Allegheny WINS:  Mark Orlic and Jack Williams have been attending meetings of the Allegheny Watershed Improvement Needs Coalition.  Nate Welker from the U. S. Forest Service will be a speaker at our next meeting to discuss the program and how the chapter can become involved.  Next meeting will be on October 10th.  If you wish to become involved, see Mark.

 

Banquet:  After a prolonged period of silence, Mark Orlic and Bill Kodrich  volunteered to co-chair the banquet.   The date will be March 29 or April 5.  Morrow will check with St. Joes and the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation group.

Old Business

 

CUP Scholarship:  Three students were chosen to share the scholarship.  Two are members of the chapter and helped significantly with the habitat improvement project on Piney and the Banquet,  Dustin Weyant and Nick Tutolo.  The third is a TU member in another chapter,  Michael Chislock.  Since there was $500 returned from one of last year’s winners who decided not to continue schooling, we will be awarding $500 to the three winners this year.  The Oil Creek and Allegheny Mt. Chapters will each contribute $333.33 this year.  The Iron Furnace Chapter contribution will be $333.33.  Carried  Kodrich/Say.

Raffle regulations:  Bill Kodrich attended a meeting where raffle regulations were explained.  50/50 raffles are now illegal.

 

RSVP for meetings:  Ron Battaglia and his staff respectfully requests that you RSVP if you are coming.  It is difficult for Ron to judge food quantity without knowing how many people will attend.

 

Discussion of changes in the fishing regulations at the project area adjacent to the Walter Dick Park: Some are interested in changing the regulations in the project area.  The consensus was that there should be no changes.  If a meeting is called to discuss changes, we should attend.

Announcements: There will be a fly fishing clinic by George Daniel at McKeever Center, Sandy Lake, May 11-12.  The Clarion County Federation of Sportsmen will meet Wed., April 18th, Our chapter is the sponsor of the meeting, The Cl. County Federation of Sportsmen Banquet will be may 5th at the Salem Community Building, Bill Kodrich has tickets @ $10.  The ANF Watershed Improvement Needs Coalition meeting will be in Warren on April 19th, jack Williams and Mark Orlic will attend. The Alliance for Wetlands and Wildlife Banquet will be on May 3rd at Traditions Banquet hall.  The chapter is a table sponsor.

 

Old Business

 

Banquet Report:  Ron Battaglia distributed a summary of the banquet financials.  The gross proceeds were $17,390 and gross expenses $11, 267 for a profit of $6123.00.  Andrew Keth indicated that he wouldn’t serve as banquet chair next year.  There was discussion on how to improve the banquet.  Andrew Keth indicated that we have about $2000 worth of prints in hand for next year’s banquet.

 

Mill Creek Coalition: Morrow reported that two Growing Greener Grant proposals were submitted for the next round of funding.  One is to repair older systems and the other is to fund the construction of a new system.  Construction will occur this summer at the Filson 7 sites near the Rt. 949 bridge over Little Mill Creek.

 

Fly fishing Clinic: The Clinic will be held again this year at Fitzgerald’s pond.  The date is June 2nd.  Bill Kodrich is handling publicity in Clarion and Ron Battaglia is handling it in Brookville.  Help will be needed.  Starts around 9:00 AM.

 

Climate change meeting chaired by National Wildlife Federation in Harrisburg :  The meeting was attended by Jack Williams.  No Report since Jack wasn’t in attendance at the chapter meeting.

 

Piney Creek Improvement:  Bill Kodrich reported that the Alliance for Wetlands and Wildlife and IFTU are attempting to get liability insurance to cover the spring on the Piney property.  He and Bernie Spozio will be meeting tomorrow with the insurance person. 

 

Piney Road Pickup:  It will be done on April 23rd at 10:00 AM/

 

Web Site development:  Keith Ferraro has made a good start on the chapter web site.  Mark Orlic will work with him and further development.  Mark will appoint an editorial committee to oversee content.  Andrew Keth volunteered to serve on an editorial committee.

 

Clarion University Conservation Scholarship:  Andy Turner is working on getting applications and the process to select recipient(s).   Each chapter will need to donate $333.33 this year.

 

Chapter fishing outing:  No plans for one this year, maybe one will come together next year.

 

New Business:

 

Watershed snapshot:  DEP is sponsoring the watershed snapshot program again this year.  The membership agreed to collect water data and do habitat assessments on April 23rd at 9:00 AM.  Bill Kodrich will bring water testing equipment.  Andrew Keth volunteered to use his sons to a macroinvertebrate collection.  Andrew will do the identification of the collection.

 

Chapter computer:  Mark Orlic has the computer.  It needs Microsoft Office to be functional.  Morrow and Orlic will check on how to obtain the software for the chapter.

 

Newsletter articles: Editor Knickerbocker is still looking for articles.  He has 2 in so far.  Articles may be given to Jim or Bill Kodrich.

 

Watershed festival:  Ron Battaglia reported that we received an invitation from the Jefferson Co. Conservation District to have a display at the Cad Emery Kids Fishing Contest on May 19th .  In light of the lack of interest by the kids last year, it was decided not to participate this year.

 

Clarion and Jefferson Counties Youth Field Days: In anticipation of a request from each county for a donation the chapter agreed to donate $100 to each event.  Kodrich/Morrow.  Carried.

 

Heath Township Sportsmen’s Club Hatchery:  The hatchery was damaged by falling trees.  They lost 1000 fish and took about $2500 in damage.  The chapter will donate $250 to help with the repairs. Battaglia/Kodrich.  Carried

 

Helen Slagle:  It was reported that Helen is doing better and sends thanks for the planter the chapter sent her.

 

Investment of chapter funds:  Treasurer Battaglia indicated that he will place $8000 in CD’s.  Dick Derby offered to help him survey the local banks.

 Next meeting will be at the Walter Dick Park by the delayed harvest project on the North Fork of Redbank Creek.  Chef Battaglia and his staff will produce a picnic dinner. The meeting will be held on Monday, May 21,2007.  Meet at 5:00 with food at 6:00.  RSVP to Ron at 814-849-8581. 

 

 

There will be no chapter meetings over the summer. The first meeting for the fall will be a picnic meeting on September 16. 2007 at Walter Dick Park.

 

Excom will meet on September 5, 2007 at a place to be named later.
